The Influence of Early Keswick Theology of Sanctification in the Socio-ethical Life of the East African Revival Movement

A Missional Perspective

£31.99

Sanctification is an essential part of every Christian life. But how do its differing theologies shape our Christian walk and wider socio-ethic contexts?

Grounded in the East Africa Revival Movement (EARM), this work seeks to answer how the Keswick theology of sanctication contributes to the socio-ethical understanding of “walking in the light” and consequently influences the mission of the Anglican Church in the Mount Kenya region. Dr. Robinson Kariuki Mwangi uses careful exegetical analysis to understand the biblical roots of revival and calls us to action in showing what our faith stands for, integrating practical theology with pastoral practice. Scholars of theology and lived Christianity will find the observations in this work informative for further study.

Endorsements

This book is a non-geographic and timeless gem! Just like what GAFCON is to the future of Anglicans in the world, this book at hand has the potential and synergy to call the church in Africa to not lose the saltiness that enabled it to sail through trying moments of history. I highly rate this book.

Rt. Rev. Joseph Kibucwa, DD
Diocese of Kirinyaga, Kenya

This is a clearly written, historical introduction to, and influence of the Keswick theology and teachings, within the East African Revival Movement (EARM).

In this book, Mwangi has creatively examined the theology of sanctification among members of the EARM from a specific region and has offered an alternative perspective of sanctification by the people. Integrating Scripture, practical theology and pastoral practice, this book will be of great importance to students of theology, especially lived Christianity, as sanctification is not an abstract concept but an integral part of the Christian life.

Dr. Mwangi’s analysis of the biblical roots of revival, as well as his insights into the challenges for mission and evangelism, lead him to argue that the East Africa Revival Movement needs to be more socially engaged, less focused on its own community and more responsive to variety and flexibility, while still maintaining a strong witness to the cost of discipleship.
